BSP goes green

BSP celebrated last week its first “Green Week”. With the distribution of a co-branded personalised reusable bottle to all the employees, an educational exhibition dedicated to plastic pollution and a conference led by IMS Inspiring More Sustainability, BSP wants to express its commitment and play its role in the battle against plastic pollution, to raise awareness on this topic and to engage people in a change of attitude from which everyone can benefit.

As a signatory of the manifesto Zero-Single-Use Plastic launched by Inspiring More Sustainability in September 2018, BSP shares the goal to cease the purchase and distribution of single-use plastics by the end of 2020. Concretely, it is about plastic cups, straws, plastic bags, or stirrers... that are designed to be used only once.

The urgency to act is no longer to be proven. Already, 9 billion tonnes of plastic have been produced since the 1950s and only 9% of the waste has been recycled. In Luxembourg, 3 tonnes of plastic waste is generated per hour. A proof that the commitment to which the companies engaged to collectively is more than welcome in the Grand Duchy.

Anticipating and going beyond the European directive recently endorsed by the European Parliament, the organisations who signed the manifesto have a clear commitment : removing by the end of 2020 many single-use plastic objects such as cups, plates, cutlery, straws and mixing sticks, food containers, bottles, packages and wipes containing plastic… A real and tangible impact expected since 121 tonnes are already covered by the manifesto (result of the first consolidated audit carried out by IMS).
